Spanish Translation of Transcription 03

You may have to transcribe recorded conversations where both English and Spanish are used, or English and another language. In this case you may put the English in bold type for both transcription and translation, if the amount of English is small and the number of tapes few, as in the following example:

MVj: Roberto este es un contrato de
trabajo. Cuando vos hire y haces un
contrato a alguien y el maje no viene
a trabajar, vos simplemente le decis
"I am sorry", me entendes, "I can't
sign, porque no has venido a
trabajar". Punto. Y lo corres.
Estamos hablando de premisas
normales, Roberto, terminos
normales.....

MV2: ..."can not be terminated or cancelled", pero esto,...ahf le cambiastes mas, vos, Francisco.

MV,: No, esa es la mismita, loco.

MV2: No, no. Vos dijistes "by any reason", no me acuerdo donde.

MV,: Roberto this is a work contract.
When you hire and you make a
contract with someone and the guy
doesn't come to work, you simply
say to him "I am sorry," you get my
meaning, "I can't sign because you
have not come to work." Period. And
you give him the boot. We are
talking about normal premises,

cancelled," but you, here you made more changes to it Francisco.

MV,: No. That is the very same, man.

MV2: No, no. You said "by any reason," I don't remember where.

When a non-native speaker of English misuses or mispronounces English words, retain the faulty English usage in both transcription and translation. If there is a great deal of English on a tape, and if you have many tapes, it may be impractical in terms of time to put the original English in bold type.

At the end of a recording, especially if it is a wiretap, you may hear "This recording was made by Special Agent Mario Bueno of a conversation be¬tween him and Juan Malo, on March 3, 1994, and the recording was finished at 6:34 p.m." This part you may put in bold type. After the agent has said who made the tape, if he says it at the end of the tape, you then need to put your own name on the document —Transcribed and Translated by Maria Intelligent, Interpreter, Certified by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts assuming that you are indeed so certified. Or, if you are accredited by the American Translators Association as a translator from Spanish to English, you might put that accreditation down after your name. You may wish to add a disclaimer, to the effect that "This transcription and this translation have been done to the best of my knowledge and ability." Of course when you sign your work, that in itself should suggest that you have done the best work you are capable of.
