Translation Services: Dialogues - Competition 4Below are parts of dialogues we gleaned from online dialogues. This information was used in our 2008 state of the industry research. ABC Translationss is NOT one of the companies involved in or mentioned in the dialogues; these messages were posted on the open Internet. These dialogues are provided in order to promote transparency in the translation industry; however, to protect the identities of the companies involved, we have chosen to replace their names with "The Company" and "Our Company." Despite what companies say, most companies including Our Company, even the biggest outsource their work from time to time. You can't predict the volume of work that comes in at any month (ebbs and flows of translation requests.) Also translation is strongly subjective. You have one person who can say that one translation is excellent while another person can disagree totally, because of style considerations, suitability to the demographic being targeted, etc. So obviously, if you are targeting a Generation-X crowd and your translator writes the content from an academic point of view, even if technically, the translation is correct and accurate, the tone and style makes it all wrong. We try to avoid these issues by understanding your target demographic in those languages and match this with the expertise of our translators. Also, all our translators are between 27-35, with translation degrees from their native countries. Our in house proofreaders are employees for 2-4 years and have long experience in translation, from a journalistic point of view. Lastly, its always preferable to have in-country translators translate or at least review, because a translator who has lived in the US more than 3 years loses the local feel and usage of newer words over time. Our Company has a strong experience base in your field. We are not a huge company but the projects we do are all well executed. You won't get any special treatment from Lionbridge because you aren't Microsoft or GE. Your business will be delegated to a junior project manager with no experience. And in the end of the day, you will be better served by Our Company. We are arguably the two leading translation services for the entertainment and advertising industries, and are certainly recognized as leaders in the industry. Even a cursory glance at either of our web sites and our client lists will confirm the same. Lionbridge does a great job doing software manuals. No wonder they don't recognize the names of the leading international communications consultants to the communications industry. Our workflow for promotion and marketing copy produces a product as good as or better than their own high standards, and our prices are lower. We would be happy to supply you with references from well-known entertainment/media companies who will attest to our quality and excellent service. 1. WHAT IS VALUE WHEN IT COMES TO BUYING WEB SERVICES? "Value" in any purchasing decision considers not only price but quality/turnaround/service responsiveness. While price is certainly an important factor, you can't make a decision based on low price alone without regard to these other important variables * Quality: I know Corrie addressed quality in the proposal response. In summary, Our Company uses a multistep QA procedure starting with careful translator selection, editing by a second translator, proofing by a member of our QA proofing team, and functionality review by one of our web experts. * Turnaround: Our Company will honor the deadline commitment that you have negotiated. We track on time delivery at above 99% and are in close communication with clients so that the rare deadline extension based on unforeseen challenges is never a surprise. * Service Responsiveness: The attention that your account has received during the "sale" will not wane. In addition to contact with your account representative Corrie and with me, you will have access to designated customer service representative Sherri Yarbrough to answer questions on work in progress and to Project Manager Tina Wuelfing if contact with operations is warranted. 2. DOES Our Company HAVE A GUARANTEE? Our job is not complete until our client is satisfied. Translation quality is subjective, and we invite feedback from our clients and our client's clients. It is not unusual in the world of "apples or orange groves" for a client reviewer to request an alternate terminology choice. Just as there is more than one way to say the same thing in English the same holds true in other languages. There is no charge for implementation of revision requests, and in the event that such requests are made, Our Company updates the terminology database set up for the client. I consider the guarantee both corporate and personal. The fact that it has my name on it as "personal" strengthens it if I want to sleep well at night!
