Translation Services: Dialogues - Competition 1Below are parts of dialogues we gleaned from online dialogues. This information was used in our 2008 state of the industry research. ABC Translationss is NOT one of the companies involved in or mentioned in the dialogues; these messages were posted on the open Internet. These dialogues are provided in order to promote transparency in the translation industry; however, to protect the identities of the companies involved, we have chosen to replace their names with "The Company" and "Our Company." It very is unfortunate that a reputable company would make such a comment about a competitor. Indeed, they are a multimillion dollar company – so is McDonald's, but I would rather eat at the smaller Sushi restaurant in our neighborhood. All joking aside, it is my experience that size does not equal quality. I have been in the translation business for many years, both as a buyer and supplier of translations. Before I founded our Company I was the manager of the multilingual translation group of a Fortune 500 medical equipment manufacturer. We bought translations from large, multimillion dollar companies, like The Company, and from smaller companies. We found that the size of the company had no bearing on the quality of the translation, or the service that we received from them. Smaller companies were just as good and even better. They also tended to give better pricing and more personalized service. Keep in mind that all translation companies use free-lancers, often the same ones. our Company has been in business since 1996. Our staff is well trained, all have college or post graduate degrees and all are bilingual or multilingual. We have many long-time clients, including Fortune 500 companies. We are currently translating a website into 17 languages (European and Asian) for a very large law firm, so we are confident that we can provide you with the quality service that you deserve. I appreciate your effort to be fair, and I understand that you want the best for your company. If you decide to select our Company, we will be delighted to work with you. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in your entrepreneurial endeavors. The Company will charge you an arm and a leg for what will amount to work no better than what our Company will provide. Their claims about our Company are absurd considering we have many Fortune 1000 clients (Hitachi, Motorola, Warner Brothers). The difference between our Company clients and their clients is that their clients don't mind paying more for the same quality. (Go figure.) The Company is a huge company with lots of expensive overhead. our Company does not. We do have an excellent methodology that ensures that the translators you receive is high quality. Our translators are based in Japan, all experienced, with translation degrees and editors who will review the translated work. Listen, Arnold Schwarzenegger is very critical of his image. He personally reviewed the German that we translated for his website. We never had any problems with quality. I don't really go for maligning competition. However, I can tell you that the The Company proposal will probably be 3 times the price that we offered. You won't save any money with The Company. It's amusing to be called a "hobbyist translation company". I don't know when their company was established, but we are a California incorporated company since 1991. We have been in business for 13 years and have localized thousands of products for companies worldwide. Our philosophy is based on continuous improvement to produce a better product at a better price. We are not a large public company with layers and layers of management like The Company. We are a company that has succeeded by building a team of experienced translators and editors one person at a time. In fact, all of our senior level translators have over 10 years of experience working as professional full time translators. More on our translation team later. I have read every word on your web site. As a Japanese who has working experience in Japan promoting USA made products in the Japanese marketplace, I can make sure your Japanese web site is presented in a way the Japanese people find appealing. This brings up another point. Our translators and editors are natives. We do not produce a literal translation. We read your web site, understand your message and then come up with the best translation to convey your message to the intended market. That is how we approach each and every project. We understand that the bottom line is to enable your web site to reach out and communicate with your customers.
